South quarterback James Werbin threw three touchdown passes to win the 1998 Les Schwab Oregon Bowl 28-7. The crowd of 7,135 (about 2000 more than last year) watch 4A graduated seniors compete in this 51st annual classic. Other highlights include:
- Werbin completed 11 of 24 passes for 236 yards to take MVP honors.
- Josh Heacock of Thurston caught Werbin's pass for the first score.
- South's Dave Langhaim of Mountain View scored on a 36-yard reception.
- Nathaniel Guard kept the North from being shutout with a 1-yard TD run.
- Brad Ralph of Crater increased South's lead with a 2-yard TD run.
- Jon Keefer of South Albany ran 46 of South's 173 rushing yards.
- Westview QB Casey Kelly completed 19 0f 42 for 209 North yards.
- South's Tim Euhus of Churchill was chosen lineman of the game.
- Safety Marc Jackson of Crescent Valley was back of the game.
