A new head coach and the departure of one of the state’s top players have done little to diminish the aura of inevitability around the 5A defending champions. “They kind of have a 10-point advantage when they show up just because they have (Jefferson) on the front of the uniforms and getting past that is tough for a lot of high school kids,” one opposing coach said.
New head coach Pat Strickland has already taken to calling 6-8 junior Terrance Jones “Mr. Do Everything” thanks to his unique skillset. “He can guard from point to center and his best attribute is his passing,” Strickland said. “I think he’s probably one of the best players in the country.”
Replacing Terrance Ross, the 5A POY who transferred out of state, won’t be easy, but Strickland thinks junior Antoine Hosley, a 6-foot lefty who transferred from Evergreen (Wash.) could be the answer. "He’s going to be the guy that people don’t really know about and he’s probably one of the better guards in the state."
